AAIP Website Crashes! Thousands of Applicants Stuck | Alberta Immigration News
Breaking news about a significant technical failure affecting thousands of potential immigrants. The Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) website has been down since 11:30 PM on June 10th, 2024, due to a massive server crash.
The system was supposed to start accepting applications under various streams today, June 11th, 2024 but the overwhelming traffic has caused a complete shutdown.
Reports indicate that over 400,000 people attempted to log on to the website simultaneously, leading to this unprecedented failure. The Alberta Government's lack of preparation for handling such immense traffic has left many hopeful applicants in a state of frustration and uncertainty.
Let's break down the numbers for you. Under the Alberta Opportunity Stream (AOS), only 430 applications were to be accepted. The Alberta Accelerated Tech Pathway was set to take just 30 applications, while the Rural Renewal Stream had a quota of 145.
The Tourism and Hospitality Stream was allocated 130 slots. Despite these limited openings, the sheer volume of applicants—estimated between 500,000 and 800,000—caused the system to collapse.
It's worth noting that more than 100,000 people currently residing in Alberta are vying for these opportunities. When considering the entire country and worldwide interest, this number could easily multiply five to ten times. This staggering demand underscores the critical need for robust technical infrastructure, which was clearly lacking in this instance.
The AAIP programs prioritize students who have studied and are working in Alberta in their field of study. However, eligibility is not confined to them alone. With certain experience conditions ranging from 12 to 24 months and LMIA-based employment, individuals from any part of the world can apply. This broad eligibility criteria further escalates the number of applicants, putting immense pressure on the system.
This incident highlights a significant oversight by the Alberta Government in planning for such a high volume of traffic. As the situation develops, we will keep you updated with the latest information. For now, the AAIP website remains down, leaving thousands of hopeful applicants in limbo.
