Category-based selection draws were introduced in May 2023 as a method for IRCC to target Express Entry candidates with highly in-demand attributes like language ability or occupation. The categories for 2024 remain the same as in 2023, including healthcare, STEM professions, trades, transport, agriculture, and strong French proficiency.
Candidates must have at least six months of continuous full-time work experience in an eligible occupation for occupation-based categories. Those eligible under the French proficiency category must achieve a minimum score of 7 in all four language abilities on the Niveaux de compétence linguistique canadiens.
