IRCC Announcement: Updates to Canadian Permanent Residence Fees!

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has announced forthcoming adjustments to certain permanent residence (PR) fees, set to take effect at 9:00:00 AM Eastern Time on April 30, 2024. These changes align with Canada’s Immigrant and Refugee Protection Regulations (IRPR) and are based on the cumulative percentage increase to the Consumer Price Index for Canada, as published by Statistics Canada.

  • Right of Permanent Residence Fee:

    • Principal applicant and accompanying spouse or common-law partner: $515 (April 2022–March 2024) to $575 (April 2024–March 2026)
  • Various Immigration Programs:

    • Principal applicant: $850 to $950
    • Accompanying spouse or common-law partner: $850 to $950
    • Accompanying dependent child: $230 to $260
  • Live-in Caregiver Program and Caregivers Pilots:

    • Principal applicant: $570 to $635
    • Accompanying spouse or common-law partner: $570 to $635
    • Accompanying dependent child: $155 to $175
  • Business (Federal and Quebec):

    • Principal applicant: $1,625 to $1,810
    • Accompanying spouse or common-law partner: $850 to $950
    • Accompanying dependent child: $230 to $260
  • Family Reunification:

    • Sponsorship fee: $75 to $85
    • Sponsored principal applicant: $490 to $545
    • Accompanying spouse or common-law partner: $570 to $635
    • Accompanying dependent child: $155 to $175
  • Protected Persons:

    • Principal applicant: $570 to $635
    • Accompanying spouse or common-law partner: $570 to $635

  • Humanitarian and Compassionate Consideration / Public Policy:

    • Principal applicant: $570 to $635

    • Principal applicant: $335 to $375

Exemptions and Additional Notes:

IRCC outlines exemptions from the Right of Permanent Residence Fee for certain categories, including sponsored children under 22 years old without a spouse/partner, and principal applicants under humanitarian and compassionate consideration and public policy classes, under specific circumstances.

Furthermore, IRCC specifies that permit holder class permanent residence applicants cannot include accompanying family members in their PR applications. Each eligible individual must submit their own application as a principal applicant.
