Ontario's Big News: 2024 PNP Allocation Revealed
Ontario has revealed its 2024 Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) allocation, receiving 21,500 nominations, marking a notable increase from 2023's 16,500.
This rise in allocation comes after the November meeting of the Federation of Ministers Responsible for Immigration (FMRI), where immigration ministers across Canadian provinces and territories, alongside federal Immigration Minister Marc Miller, discussed the impact of immigration on their respective jurisdictions.
During the meeting, provinces and territories (excluding Quebec and Nunavut) advocated for greater control over provincial nominations and higher allocations. Consequently, Canada plans to welcome 110,000 new permanent residents through the PNP in 2024, surpassing the federal Express Entry program.
In March 2023, the FMRI endorsed a multi-year-level plan for PNP allocations, enabling provinces to better plan local infrastructure to accommodate both existing populations and newcomers. However, Ontario has yet to make announcements regarding notional allocations for the following two years.
Provincial Immigration Highlights (March 29-April 5):
British Columbia: On April 3, British Columbia conducted four draws, inviting a total of 83 candidates under its Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP). Invitations were issued across various categories, with minimum score requirements ranging from 107 to 130.
Alberta: The Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) invited 48 candidates under the Dedicated Healthcare Pathway with Alberta job offers. This draw, aligned with Express Entry, required candidates to have a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 300 or higher.
Prince Edward Island: On April 4, PEI issued 66 invitations to Labour and Express Entry candidates in healthcare, manufacturing, and early childhood education sectors. This marked the first draw of the month for the PEI PNP and the sixth draw of the year.
